What Facility Transfers Involve

When Care Needs or Life Changes Require a New Facility

Facility transfers happen for many reasons. Care needs change and require different levels (independent to assisted, assisted to memory care). Family relocates and wants senior closer. Facility closes or changes. Cost or amenity considerations drive a switch.

Whatever the reason, transfers between facilities need coordination with both facilities, careful handling of belongings the resident has already gotten familiar with, and often family logistics from a distance. We handle the moving so families can focus on the transition.

Questions

Assisted Living Transfer FAQ

The most common questions about facility-to-facility moves.

Can you do same-day facility transfers?

Often yes for local transfers. Same-day minimizes resident disruption - out of old room in morning, into new room by afternoon. Depends on both facilities’ availability.

How do you help maintain continuity for the resident?

We photograph the current room layout before packing. At new facility, we recreate that layout as closely as possible. Familiar items unpacked and placed first.

Do you coordinate with facility management?

Yes - direct communication with both facilities on scheduling, requirements, and timing. Elevator reservations, move-in windows, common area protection.

What if the transfer is for memory care needs?

We work closely with family and facility staff on timing that minimizes resident awareness of the transition. Familiar setup at destination is especially important for memory care.
